Celebrities fill the Lanes

The seventh annual CP3 PBA Celebrity Invitational drew a range of stars ranging from Super Bowl star running back C.J. Anderson to Olympic and World Cup gold medalist Hope Solo to Grammy-winning singer Shawn Stockman of Boys II Men.

Having celebrities on the lanes is not unique. Bowling has an incredibly broad appeal and fulfills the needs of those who want to be competitive or just want to have fun. Some stars spotted recently at bowling centers across the country include:

Justin Bieber – The Biebs recently spent a relaxing afternoon bowling at Bowlmor Lanes in White Plains, New York.

Iggy Azalea & Nick Young – This high profile couple made one of their first public appearances together in some time on the lanes at Lucky Strike in Hollywood.

From athletes to actors to singers, they all have one thing in common: they love to bowl! Isn't it about time you joined them. Visit North Bowl on Route 1 in North Attleboro for a great bowling experience!

How anyone can become a better Bowler!

Ready to amaze your friends with your bowling skills? Or do you just want to make sure no one realizes you have no idea how to bowl? The great thing about bowling – other than it’s one of the few sporting pastimes where you can feast on nachos while enjoying a beverage or two – is that most newcomers can get the hang of it quickly.

Let's review some bowling basics if you're currently learning to bowl.

Pick the right ball

A good ball should be comfortable in your hand and weigh about 10 percent of your body weight. In other words, if you weigh 180 pounds, don’t choose the ball that weighs nine pounds. The ball should have a bit of heft to it.

Choose your spot carefully

Those little arrows and dots on the lane are there to help guide you. Remember to pick the same spot each time. A consistent motion at the beginning will help with your timing.

Develop good timing

Every step in your approach should correlate with where your arm is relative to your swing, and where the ball is upon release. Take the same number of steps every time and focus on where the ball is in relation to those steps.

Hand and wrist action

Throwing a straight ball is one of the first goals for any new bowler. Keeping your wrist and arm straight through your whole motion helps with this. Beginners frequently allow their elbows to swing side-to-side – a good way to end up with the dreaded gutter ball.

Finish the way the pros do

Maintain a straight position with your arm and wrist and release the ball as it passes your foot. It's a good idea to allow your throwing hand finish at shoulder level or higher. Enough practice and you'll be able to finish in a balanced position.

Practice makes perfect

Your score may not improve dramatically overnight, but if you focus on these tips -- and less on the nachos and beverages -- you should begin to see improvement in time.

And if you just can't wait to use these tips to bowl your best game ever, please visit North Bowl and get on your way to enjoying the number one participation sport in America..

Exciting Changes – Providence, RI area

Exciting Changes coming at North Bowl Lanes in North Attleboro – Providence, RI area

Thursday, May 21, 2015

This week was the beginning of the latest round of renovations at North Bowl. We have built some walls to enclose the construction area and temporarily relocated the bar next to the front desk area. For all our friends who have been asking, we will definitely remain open during construction this summer. The latest changes will include a redesigned restaurant and bar area and a function room for corporate parties and events.

There is a trend in the bowling industry that is transforming traditional bowling alleys into more of a full service family entertainment business. We have a made a real effort over the past several years to upgrade the food and beverage component of the business and adding a better defined restaurant area is a natural extension of that effort. Our food and beverage service consistently surprising people who don’t expect to find quality food in a bowling center. How many bowlingalleys offer real brick oven pizza?

We believe that a fun, affordable family restaurant area will nicely compliment and it fits nicely with our efforts to provide family oriented entertainment with bowling and the game room. We want to make North Bowl a destination where the entire family will have a great time in a clean and friendly environment without breaking the bank As we have grown the corporate party segment of our business, we’ve also had a real need for a function room and private meeting space.

The proposed restaurant area will seat approximately 80 people and feature "hand stretched pizza" and other casual menus items in a sports oriented setting. The function room will accommodate up to 40 guests for private parties, corporate events and meetings. It will also be available on weekends for upscale kids birthday parties.

Stop by this summer and watch our progress and we continue to work hard to make North Bowl the premiere family entertainment center in Southern New England

Parks and Recreation

Check out all of the activities available through the North Attleboro Park and Recreation Department. At the WWI Park and Zoo, your kids can play on the playgrounds, have a picnic, walk the nature trails or visit with some animal friends, like ducks, sheep, pigs and llamas. During the summer you can take the kids for a swim at the World War II Pool or participate in the Summer Playground Program. Throughout the year, your children can sign up for an array of sports, including flag football, baseball, volleyball and field hockey. Children's programs include dance, gymnastics, theater, robotics and Kids Night Out.

Arcades

Want to escape the crowds and get a unique beach experience? Head to Spring Lake Beach in Burrillville, where you can still play arcade games for a penny and compete in a sandcastle contest. Visiting Spring Lake is like taking a step back in time. It is home to one of the oldest penny arcades in the country. Opened in 1931, the Spring Lake Arcade still features wooden baseball, driving, shooting and other games — many for a penny or a nickel.

Bowling Birthday Parties and More Fun Ideas – Providence, RI

Thursday, April 23, 2015

It is time to start thinking about your kid's birthday party. Hosting the party at a venue away from home makes the party easier and less stressful. Rather than bringing all those kids to the movie theatre, where they can't interact and the cost can really skyrocket, how about a bowling birthday party!

At North Bowl Lanes your child and all the guests can laugh, talk, play and have a ball. Kids love bowling birthday parties, and you only have to bring the cake. Our parties include all of the essentials and they are very affordable.

But, want to make your child's birthday party extra special? Here are some "bowling birthday" ideas from Parent's Magazine.

Party Ideas:

Send each bowler home as a champ! Personalize plastic trophies from the party store with gold letter stickers or a gold marker. Fill the trophy cups with wrapped chocolate balls.

To go along with the bowling theme, dress up black party balloons with round white adhesive labels from the office supply store. They'll look just like bowling balls!

We have an arcade at the bowling alley too. So, if you are so inclined, bring a big stack of quarters for your guests.

Want to inspire a little "tom foolery?" Here are some Bowling Game Ideas:

Write each of these wacky variations on a slip of paper and have kids draw one before each turn:

  1. Bowl backward.
  2. Do a silly walk as you approach the bowling lane.
  3. Bowl in slow motion.
  4. Bowl pretending that one of the boards in the lane's wood floor is a tightrope.
  5. Do the following as the ball is rolling down the lane:
  6. Predict whether you will knock over an odd or even number of pins.
  7. Speed-sing as much of a song as possible.
  8. Spell out loud the birthday child?s name backward.
  9. Call out as many pizza toppings, ice-cream flavors, or kinds of candy as you can think of.
  10. For more information on bowling birthday parties for kids, contact North Bowl Lanes.
